Extended Family Session – Welcome Guide!

Yay, I’m excited to photograph your whole family! An extended family portrait session is a wonderful way to document special moments with your loved ones. Here are some tips to help prepare for an extended family portrait session. Please forward this link to your family that we’ll be photographing 🙂

Extended Family Session

Extended family applies to family groups of six or more that are outside the immediate family (for example, a family of four, plus two grandparents, would be an extended family session). These sessions can also include cousins, aunts and uncles, grandparents, and/or family friends.

What to Expect

With a larger group, we try to capture the large group, individual families, and any other combinations that you would like. Please let us know ahead of time if you have a specific list of combinations. For our session time, allow 60 minutes.

When and Where

Your session can be inside or outside; it will depend on the time of day, the weather, and what you want to capture in your session. Indoor sessions can take place at any time of day. For outdoor sessions, we’ll be aiming for early morning or late afternoon. If you have a location in mind, let us know!

What to Wear

First and foremost, choose outfits that make you feel good and comfortable!

We recommend that you go for coordinating colors amongst your family members rather than matching.

Tip: If we’re photographing in a green park, stay away from greens but think of Yellows, Blues, Oranges as your coordinating colors. If we’re photographing near a blue lake, stay away from blue but think of Reds, Yellows, Green, Oranges.

You don’t all need to wear khakis and blue sweaters! A mix of textures and colors that “go together” rather than match makes for a fun and stunning photos. Remember to include shoes when you’re considering the overall look and coordination of your outfits; your feet will definitely be in some of the photos.

Dress appropriately for the weather; it’s especially hard for kids to give authentic smiles if they are feeling too hot or too cold.

Don’t be afraid of vibrant colors, textures, and patterns like florals and plaid. Do avoid pinstripes, fluorescent colors, and logos.

Pinterest is a great resource for images or color palettes!

What You Get

2-3 weeks after our session, you will receive your photos in a password-protected online gallery. Your images are downloadable and can be printed up to 5×7. If you’d like to order an album, prints, or high-resolution images so you can print yourself, you can do so in your online gallery.

Now let’s have fun!
