San Jose Photographer – tips before photographing kids
I absolutely love getting to know kids and especially, photographing them! I’ve been a photographer for over sixteen years and have accumulated a memory bank of fun ways to photograph kids and to get their personalities to shine. Here are just some of my 5 tips before photographing kids 🙂
- Get to know each family before photographing them. Ask questions about the kids, interests, what makes them laugh, your special moments with each other.
- Talk directly to the kids, get down to their level and let them know about the session, what to expect, tell them your plans and see how they can help you. Remind the kids your there to have fun and play
- Prepare for silly games, I have a few that I mix/match with depending on the kid’s personalities or their ages
- Tell them how awesome they’re doing. Show them the back of your camera. Have them assist you by bringing along a kid camera that they can use
- While taking the together photos, ask the parents what they love about their kids. Ask the kids what their favorite thing of their parent is. The expressions as the parents or the kids have while sharing these moments is special
- Bonus: if the kid is being a bit shy, tell them to smell their hair and report back on what it smells like. This not only elicits giggles but it allows for that “intimate” moment of a kid snuggling up to the parents
