Time for graduation and promotion portraits – San Jose Photos by Kim E
Graduation and promotion portraits is such a special way to celebration your kiddos next step in their journey. So instead of the awkward school photo, Photos by Kim E aims to showcase your kiddo as they are, highlight their personality, and make sure that their style is celebrated during their portrait session. And one of the best ways to do that is through a ten-minute session. Yes, it sounds short but kids are kids and they want to be in and out for their photos. Here are some tips for your kiddo’s graduation and promotion portraits:
• Book your session early – think April/May
Calendars can book up quickly and sometimes the weather can be funky so plan ahead so you can make sure there are backup dates available. Also, you don’t want to wait until the last minute in June and not have your photos done until post-graduation!
• Rock your style
Show off your personal style! Want to wear Doc Martens with a flowy skirt, do it. Want to wear Vans with Sharpie doodles, do it! This time of your life is so precious and we want the photos to capture you. If you’re stuck on what to wear, Pinterest is one of my favorite places to start for ideas.
• Props
Do you play sports in school? Do you like to craft, think of things to bring that you love. Bring that volleyball, a rubik’s cube, and if you have your cap and gown already, bring that along and make it part of your photos.
• Arrive on time or even early for your session
Your time is valuable, your parent’s time is valuable and your photographer’s time is valuable. So make sure you arrive at your session on time or even better, about ten minutes earlier!
• Parents
Parents are welcome to join but it’s up to you. They can help with your stuff, make funny faces in the background and maybe try to bribe you after with a treat. But really, they also want to be a part of it so they are welcome but do what makes you most comfortable. Also, if you have a wonderful bond with your little sibling, feel free to include them for a few photos too.
