Fun family photos is my favorite style of photo session! Yes, we get the typical photos, exploring somewhere like before this location at Piedmont Park. But then we celebrate our photos by heading off to a place for a treat. I think of it like icing on a cake, or a bakery with extra fun.
Mom’s thoughtful questionnaire answers mentioned they have a favorite bakery they love to go to after dance class and there was also another answer on how they love to spend family time together, playing Uno. So after we explored Piedmont Park, I suggested we head to their bakery and had Giant Uno as a surprise in my bag for them to play a round or two. The kids loved this version!
By surprising them with something they love to do together as a family, this bonus, fun part of our session helps to capture memories and traditions in a different way. It’s a mix of lifestyle and documentary as I let them play and their fun unfold.
Here are some additional tips for making fun family photos that I love to do during our session:
- Choose a location that kids will love. Love ice cream, let’s go to your favorite parlor. Love Michael’s Craft Store, let’s go there!
- Open to creativity. Have teens or older kids and not sure, don’t be afraid of getting wet with water balloons. Or grabbing bikes to go to a sculpture garden.
- Be patient. It takes time to get kids used to being in front of the camera so by including a bonus location, helps them open up even more and allowing me to photograph you, as you are.
